Maverick Women

Here at CMCC we have over 60 female members and pride ourselves in supporting women who wish to ride in a less threatening male dominated club.

Maverick women represent over a fifth of our membership and this proportion continues to grow.  Whilst women are generally underrepresented in cycling, we aim to ensure that this is not the case in our club.  We welcome women of any age, ability and experience.

Our female BC coach Danielle Riley organises coached Club events both on and off the track for women, youths and men. Danielle has dedicated her career to raising the profile and participation of women in the cycling community and is especially proud of the contribution CMCC have made towards this.

Whilst we don’t have specific female only rides, many of us get together informally to ride. We enjoy riding with the guys as well but it’s nice to know that in a male dominated sport the Cheshire Maverick has a larger than average female community.

Upcoming Events:

The Maverick Women will take on the Yorkshire Lass Sportive!

We’re heading to Yorkshire next August to ride the Yorkshire Lass Sportive. Aimed at all ladies with a choice of 3 routes this sportive encourages women to get out on their bikes whilst raising money for some fantastic charities.

Alexa Dawson –

“I had never ridden in a group of cyclists before I joined the Mavs and didn’t know what to expect. From the very first ride I was made to feel welcome. Everyone made such an effort to talk to me. Since then I’ve made so many wonderful friends. The chat, banter and fun make this Club very special indeed”.

Rachel Rushton –

“ This is undoubtedly the most welcoming sports club I have encountered in a lifetime spent immersed in such groups! There are simply three words to describe the group that are the Cheshire Mavs and Mavettes – encouraging, inclusive and fun!”.

Jackie Blackburn –

“I was nervous when I came to the Mavs having known other cycling Clubs that drop women on rides but they couldn’t have been nicer. I’ve been to places and up hills I’d never done without them, Mavs and Mavettes are equally wonderful people”.
